"1" is a silent film project organized with the hope that movies without language will bring about international exchange beyond words and ultimately contribute to world peace where universality and diversity are equally respected.

As the world is united by the internet and rapid transit today, language is the final realm that still hinders unity. Thus, the organizers of this project, HINAMI, will be sharing a series of silent films with the world on a regular basis from a Japanese locale, Kumamoto.

The films are all one minute long containing nothing but images: no subtitles, no sound at all. This year we will also showcase a feature-length film, a meta-film, comprised of these one-minute films all created with a "red pen" motif.
